  • 2009-2013 Toyota Matrix (Base 1.8L Models)

  • 2008-2014 Scion xD (Direct long block replacement)

Installation & Technical Notes

The 2ZR-FE is a straightforward replacement, but attention to sensor compatibility is key for a "plug-and-play" experience:

  • Long Block Conversion: This sale includes the engine block, cylinder head, and internal rotating assembly. You must transfer your original USDM intake manifold, exhaust manifold, alternator, and wiring harness. This ensures 100% compatibility with your vehicle’s ECU and emissions equipment.

  • Crank & Cam Sensors: We recommend using your original USDM sensors (Crankshaft and Camshaft positions) to ensure the plugs match your existing wiring harness perfectly.

  • Water Pump Inspection: While the 2ZR-FE is robust, the water pumps are a known wear item. We strongly recommend installing a new Aisin (OEM) water pump before installation to ensure cooling system longevity.

  • Essential Maintenance: We strongly recommend replacing the following parts during the swap:

    • Spark Plugs: NGK Laser Iridium (ILKAR7B11).

    • Engine Oil: 0W-20 or 5W-20 Full Synthetic Oil (Check your oil cap for spec).

    • Oil Filter: Cartridge or Spin-on type (Transfer your original housing if necessary).

    • Coolant: Toyota Super Long Life Pink Coolant.

  • ECU Adaptation: After installation, disconnect the battery for 30 minutes to reset the fuel trim "long-term memory," allowing the ECU to calibrate to the new engine's flow characteristics during the first drive cycle.
