Installation & Technical Notes

The BEAMS 3S-GE is a high-compression, interference engine. To ensure a successful installation and maintain peak performance, follow these technical guidelines:

  • Long Block Conversion: This sale includes the engine block, cylinder head, and "Red Top" valve cover. For swaps into non-SS-III vehicles, you will require the BEAMS-specific ECU, MAF sensor, and engine wiring harness to operate the VVT-i system and fuel maps correctly.

  • Exhaust Manifold: The BEAMS head features unique exhaust port spacing. Use the included JDM tubular manifold or a custom BEAMS-specific header for optimal flow.

  • Fuel Requirement: Due to the 11.0:1 compression ratio, this engine requires 91-93 octane premium fuel. Using lower grades will result in timing retard and loss of VTEC-like power delivery.

  • Essential Maintenance: We strongly recommend replacing the following parts before installation:

    • Timing Belt & Tensioner: Critical maintenance for an interference high-RPM motor.

    • Spark Plugs: NGK Laser Platinum (BKR6EP-11 or heat range 7 for track use).

    • Engine Oil: 5W-30 or 10W-30 High-Quality Full Synthetic.

    • Camshaft Seals: Replace while the timing belt is off to prevent oil leaks into the VVT-i pulley.

  • ECU Adaptation: Ensure the electrical grounds are secure. The BEAMS ECU is sensitive to voltage drops, which can cause erratic VVT-i engagement.
