The Story

Vehicle Specifications

  • Engine Code: D17A (VTEC)

  • Displacement: 1.7 Liter (1,668cc)

  • Configuration: Inline 4-Cylinder

  • Valvetrain: SOHC 16-Valve VTEC

  • Timing Drive: Timing Belt Driven (Interference Engine)

Vehicle Fitments

  • 2001–2005 Honda Civic EX (USDM Direct Long Block Replacement for D17A2)

  • Installation Note: This engine can be swapped into DX/LX (Non-VTEC) models, but requires VTEC wiring and a compatible ECU.

Included Parts

  • Complete Engine Long Block (Block and VTEC Cylinder Head)

  • VTEC Solenoid Assembly

  • Intake Manifold & Throttle Body

  • Fuel Rails & Fuel Injectors

  • Coil Packs & Spark Plugs

  • Alternator, AC Compressor, & Power Steering Pump

  • Water Pump & All Internal Timing Components

Installation & Notes

  • USDM Swap: To ensure 100% plug-and-play compatibility with your vehicle's ECU and emissions, you must transfer all your original USDM accessories to the JDM unit.

  • Crank Sprocket Warning: JDM D17A engines often feature a different crankshaft timing gear tooth pattern. You must swap your original USDM Crankshaft Sprocket and Camshaft Gear onto the JDM engine to prevent synchronization codes (P0335/P0340) and starting issues.

  • VTEC Solenoid: If the JDM VTEC solenoid electrical connector does not match your harness, simply swap your original USDM VTEC solenoid onto the JDM head.

  • Maintenance: We highly recommend a new timing belt kit, water pump, and rear main seal. It is also critical to use a new thermostat and ensure the cooling system is properly bled, as the D17 series is sensitive to overheating.
